Tutoring for AP tests
The AP testing season is almost upon us, and students may feel the pressure in the coming weeks mounting. AP classes are designed to give students the understanding of the subject matter typical of a first year college course in the subject. Students prove what they have learned by taking a standardized test in May that is designed to showcase what the student has learned in class. Very skilled AP teachers can prepare students very well for the test, but sometimes students need a little more preparation, either because their teacher is weak or because they have fallen a little bit behind.

Tutoring for the AP test is usually short term and very focused. Parents need to make sure the tutors have the background needed to prepare the student effectively for the test. Remember that someone who has a major or a minor (or who has taken many advanced courses as part of a major) in a subject has generally gone well beyond what an AP test covers. AP courses are advanced for high school, and many students will tell you that they are often a bit more rigorous than first year college courses, but they are not so complicated that a person with a degree or many advanced courses in a subject can't teach it easily.

The key is also to find someone who is not only qualified, but knows how to teach and explain. Doing it yourself is one thing, but teaching concepts to someone else is a different thing entirely.
