One on one tutoring versus group tutoring
Parents sometimes ask what kind of tutoring is better for their child: one on one tutoring or group tutoring. In our experience, one on one tutoring almost always is more effective and works faster than group tutoring. With a one on one tutor, a student can get exactly what he or she needs at any given moment, without waiting for or being distracted by others.

The per hour cost of one on one tutoring is generally a bit higher than small group tutoring. We have found in many situations, students have not needed as much one on one tutoring as they thought they would need. The reason for this is that since the support is focused and more efficient, many times less hours are needed in the long run. So if parents are willing to invest a little more up front, the pay off could very well be faster results and less time spent in tutoring sessions.

The advantage of one on one tutoring are even more apparent for those students who have trouble focusing in class, have motivational issues, have very unique needs (i.e. bringing up a C in AP chemistry), are very busy, and who have tried the small group tutoring approach to no avail. Customizing the tutoring program is a key to a student's success, and one on one tutoring is one good way to achieve that.
