Avoiding summer school
It is getting down to the end of the school year, and some students (maybe one of your children) are teetering on the brink of failing a class. A failed class means lost time, and in most cases, summer school.

There is still hope to avoid summer school. Our tutors specialize in fast turnarounds for students and parents who are committed to saving a grade in a class. We can develop a customized plan to turn things around quickly.

In addition to hiring a tutor, there are many things parents can do at home to avoid an F at the end of the year:

  • Have your child talk to the teacher (generally for high school and mature middle school students). Have your child ask what he/she can do in order to pass.
  • Talk to the teacher yourself, so that you know specifically what your child needs to do in order to pass. You also want to talk to the teacher if your child says there is "no way to pass."
  • Talk with your child. You need to get a commitment from your child that he/she is going to work hard to get a passing grade. Your child needs to know it is possible, which is why you need to talk to the teacher as well.
  • Put aside your anger that your child has gotten into this mess in the first place. There will be time to address that during the summer--hopefully while your child is free of summer school.
  • It is a good time to make a deal: "We (your parents) will help you stay out of summer school, IF you make some big changes starting next school year."

Taking these steps now (and there isn't much time left in the school year) could help save you and your child the hassle and lost time of a failing grade and summer school.
